    Why do the posts that cut the deepest always appear in communities like shitposting and the like? I say to myself as I try to pretend this post doesn’t involve me.

      Because shitposting doesn’t have a theme. Some of it is silly. Some of it is offensive. Some of it is introspective. A good shitpost should get a laugh, but also make you think; either if the offensive trash has a modicum of accuracy, or about life in general.

      The best brain worms are delivered when we aren’t looking for them.

    It took me until my late thirties but I figured it out. I break my mental freeze from a compliment by just saying out loud what just happened. I say, “That was a compliment.” Then natural empathy and politeness take over and I continue with, “Thank you for the kind words.” This can happen simultaneously with feeling and silently processing the shame and discomfort that being complimented causes.
