The valuation is based on the expectation of the company to make massive profits. And if you think investor money is not profit for the people running Open AI, you’re crazy. We could only hope that they run out of money and go out of business. But that’ll never happen now with the amount of faith these corporations are putting in “AI” research.

I don’t know about Apple but Google used to make a little tone that let you know that it was listening to you. It doesn’t do that anymore. Now it just shows a little green light which, if you’re not looking directly at the phone you won’t see.
And it was pretty frequent when Google’s voice Assistant would randomly activate and I’d hear that little tone and I would have to turn it off so it wouldn’t sit there listening to my conversation. But now you don’t have that option, now if you miss that little light everything you say is recorded.
Fuck these services. I have permanently disabled both my phones 's Google Assistant and the Nest speaker I bought. Yes, it’s less convenient. But the fact of the matter is that these companies aren’t interested in making a service that is useful to you they just want to collect data on everything you do so they can sell it. And to be clear, I was fine with them collecting data on stuff that I actively participated in, it’s the price I was willing to pay. But for them to pull this shady ass shit of removing the audible notification is just garbage.
Interestingly Israel has violated all three of these on hundreds of occasions in Gaza.

I’m not saying that private jets aren’t incredibly wasteful in terms of their CO2 production and fossil fuel usage. I’m just saying that the motivation for criticizing Taylor Swift is less about how much she uses her private jet and more about how much political influence she might wield in the coming months. I think the arguments against her are bad faith arguments made either by people who simply don’t like her for the sake of not liking her or are trying to disarm her influence in whatever way they can. And I find that completely silly. And every “yeah but” argument you make and every person who downvotes me just proves me more and more right.
Here’s the problem with your argument. Taylor Swift actually has a reason to use a private jet on a regular basis. She’s actively moving around the world doing tours and needs the ability to travel great distances at a moment’s notice. However rich douchebags with too much time on their hands like Elon Musk don’t have this need. Neither do many of the other ultra rich people out there who own private jets and fly them all over the place.
And to clarify, I’m not a Swifty. I don’t really care for her music at all. I just think it’s goddamn stupid to criticize someone who actually has a purpose for using such a conveyance while there are others who have absolutely no reason to need such things who are getting a free pass just because they aren’t targets of a political campaign that is desperate to neutralize her influence.
And she is one of how many ultra rich people out there who have private jets and they use them to go every damn place?

While Intel has absolutely been losing money on its chipmaking Foundry business as it invests in new factories and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, to the tune of $7 billion in operating losses in 2023 and another $2.8 billion this quarter, the company’s products themselves aren’t unprofitable.
So what I’m getting here is that the CEO and or the board decided to invest in something that is losing a ton of money and so now 15% or more of the people who have been working diligently to actually make the company money are going to pay for it by losing their job.
I just never gave my TV access to the Internet and use my home theater PC to watch stuff. Never seen a need for more.
